Chet Valley is a family-owned, Suffolk-based Vineyard producing an award-winning range of artisan English wine. Whilst operating an extensive (and growing) 15-acre site featuring a winery and venue hall, Chet Valley offers a range of on and off-site activities and products catering to wine lovers at home and across the globe, including vineyard tours, picnics, events, vine leasing, vineyard holidays, online wine tastings, and wine subscriptions. Their popular boutique bottles, commitment to sharing their craft, and dedication to sustainable management set them apart – but this wasn’t highlighted in the performance of their previous WIX site.

John and Bridget Hemmant, Chet Valley’s founders, contacted GLO with plans to create a brand new, fully-optimised website that ranked well, drove traffic and included e-commerce and event-booking functionality. We delivered.

1 – ESTABLISHING A SITEMAP BUILT TO PERFORM

Data drives every decision GLO’s team makes – and that includes the very first ones. After examining Chet Valley’s existing website, and arranging some in-depth discussions regarding new services and the desired site layout with owners John and Bridget, our team got to work. They conducted extensive industry, competitor and keyword research, using valuable data to plan and perfect a sitemap built to deliver an enhanced UX, and generate Chet Valley more leads than ever before.

2 – BOOSTING SEARCH ENGINE RANKINGS AND DRIVING RELEVANT TRAFFIC WITH SEO COPYWRITING

We all know content is king. Before kick-starting the web development and design process, our SEO experts and content team worked to give Chet Valley’s search rankings an organic boost using high-quality on-page content. As always, our content production process started with further keyword research, designed to establish the user intent of the site’s most common and ideal visitors, whilst allowing for the production of relevant copy targeting all the right terms, from “Norfolk Vineyard” to “Wine Tasting Kits”. The result? Chet Valley’s copy is a perfect balance of enticing and functional, bringing their beautiful property and experience to life through screens across the globe, and ranking well – with over 712% more search impressions within just 1 month of launch.

3 – DEVELOPING A CONTEMPORARY WEBSITE WITH BOOKING AND E-COMMERCE FUNCTIONALITY

After our optimised content was approved by the client, our web designers got to work, aligning Chet Valley’s existing branding guidelines to create with their vision to create a visually stunning collection of clean, modern pages featuring heavy use of imagery and a vineyard inspired colour palette.

The finished site is designed with the user in mind, featuring booking and purchasing functionality where relevant, alongside a host of accessibility tools, ensuring the site delivers an enjoyable, simple-to-use experience to all visitors. Chet Valley’s UX driven page layout and carefully considered copy made it easy for our team to connect relevant services, and lead visitors to convenient calls to action, ensuring maximal conversion.

The e-commerce store is within easy reach from any page of the site, and gives shoppers the ability to filter by a number of optimised categories, including skill wine, sparkling wine, cases, and gifts. To further this, our development team implemented automatic repeat purchase functionality for customers looking to stock up on a regular basis, whilst ensuring the site’s payment system was able to process direct debit and card purchases simultaneously for those with subscriptions and individual items in their basket.

4 – IMPROVING RANKINGS, & INCREASING TRAFFIC WITH SEO

Our work didn’t end there. In order to ensure Chet Valley’s new site was able to generate the high numbers of traffic, leads, and conversions it deserved, our SEO team gave the site a thorough once-over, implementing headings, titles, and meta-descriptions based on extensive research and designed to boost rankings, drive traffic and increase the click-through-rate.
