Currently available in England and Wales, degree apprenticeships are growing quickly in popularity – and for good reason. They offer years of industry experience, the opportunity to both build and apply knowledge and skills, and the opportunity to earn a salary. The best part? You won’t have to pay a penny in tuition fees! 

      It’s hard work, but more than worth it. As a degree apprentice, you’ll spend 20% of your working week studying towards your BSc or BA.

      Degree apprenticeships may be a relatively new route to work experience and education – but that doesn’t make them any less effective. In fact, degree apprenticeships are one of the best ways out there to gain valuable skills and knowledge only learned on the job whilst developing the theoretical knowledge only found in academic syllabuses. After completing your course, you’ll have a huge advantage over those committed solely to studying, leaving with either a BSc or BA alongside extensive industry experience. The organisation providing your apprenticeship may even offer you a permanent position after the completion of your course! That’s not even mentioning added bonuses of free tuition and lifelong connections!

      Degree apprenticeships are a relatively new scheme, meaning that the offerings available are changing constantly! The list of industries involved thus far includes (but isn’t limited to) chartered management, digital marketing, engineering, accounting and finance, architecture and planning, legal, construction, agriculture, teaching, IT, construction, transportation, leisure, chartered surveying, and PR.

      A digital marketing apprenticeship combines education and working life into one active learning course and role, helping candidates gain both knowledge and much-needed industry experience. Apprenticeships in general are offered by universities/accrediting bodies and employers in partnership at a number of different levels, with the most common being level 3, level 4, ad level 6 (degree apprenticeships). 

      Digital marketing apprentices will apply their learned knowledge of subjects including analytics, optimisation, content writing, graphic design, PPC advertising, social media management, email marketing, lead generation, and more to their everyday work, using a combination of strategies to amplify online brand awareness and achieve goals.

      The exact job specifications of a digital marketing apprentice will depend on the organisation for which they work, alongside the level and content of their course – but it’s safe to say that they’ll experience plenty of variety along the way!

      For example, digital marketing degree apprentices (level 6) will work to build both their knowledge and skills across industry specialisms including SEO, content production, copywriting, lead generation, CRO, web design, email marketing, PPC, social media management, and more whilst dedicating 20% of their contracted working week to studying towards their BSc or BA. Their day-to-day work may include anything from creating a PPC ad campaign to writing optimised content for a landing page.
